The secret to Perfectly Fluffy White Rice is not a rice cooker. You too, can achieve delicious fluffy rice, right on your stove top. All it takes is a little practice and knowing exactly what grain of rice to use. There are a lot of different grains of rice out there and I will cover those in another post. This post will cover the rice most people use which is the rice I prefer for plain white rice.
My preferred rice for most of the food I cook is extra long grain (basmati and Jasmin fall under this type of rice too). Its long and thin, cooks up fluffy and doesn’t clump easily like short grain does…basically the easiest rice, foolproof even.
A lot of recipes will tell you that the ratio is 2:1, which means 2 cups of water for every cup of rice, I was taught that ratio in culinary school too. This has never ever worked for me. What works for me is literally a half cup of liquid more than the amount if rice I’m using. So for 1 cup of rice , I’ll use 1.5 cups of water, 2 cups of rice; 2.5 cups of water. Basically the water and rice are equal measurements and the .5 cup more of water stays the same. do not double it. I’ve messed up a lot of rice in my lifetime figuring this out lol
Another secret to fluffy, non clumpy rice is rinsing it.. rinsing it a lot. At least 4 or 5 times. You want the water after rinsing it to be as close to clear as it can get. We rinse the rice to remove the starch that’s on the surface, that stuff will make you end up with gummy rice and that is no bueno (good).
Follow my ratio and method and you will always end up perfectly fluffy white rice every single time. We covered ratio and rinsing, now lets make some rice 🙂
To complete this meal serve this rice alongside my Green Curry Buttermilk Roast Chicken.. its sooo good 😉
